Beautiful weekend Spring weather beckons the call for park picnics and lounging outside enjoying Sunday brunch! No places are better suited for this than Prospect Park and Father Knows Best in Brooklyn. As a Bushwick resident, Prospect Park can sometimes feel like a faraway fantasy world full of wonder and mystery. However, on a beautiful day, citibike can get you there in 25 minutes flat, and what felt like a world away quickly became a lovely and active journey!

I decided to make the trip myself last weekend when the weather reached a pristine 70 degrees. Immediately I felt taken by the energy of the park. I saw families and couples enjoying the newly bloomed Cherry blossoms, and adorable babies sneezing from the Spring air! I settled by a tree near the lake, and was able to enjoy a brass band playing on the other side, their trumpet sounds carrying across the still water.

The following morning I was blessed again to wake up to the sun shining through my bedroom window! My partner and I agreed that it was an all-too-appropriate day for Sunday brunch and cocktails. We made our way to our favorite spot for such affordable and delicious eggy delights, Father Knows Best. This quaint yet authentic dive bar / community hub is located on the outskirts of Bushwick. They have daily events, including “Movie Night Mondays” and “Trivia Wednesdays.” No need for tickets; just show up.

My partner and I started with a Bloody Mary, as any good brunch does. The meal only got better from there as we indulged in homemade cheddar bacon biscuits with whipped cayenne and honey butter, absolutely to DIE for. All in all, this brunch affair was a major weekend highlight.
