When you’re hungover in New York, there aren’t many ways to instantly make you feel better. There’s no beautiful beach to lay on, or an accessible hike nearby. With these limited resources, food naturally becomes one of your most sacred hangover indulgences. It’s safe to say that I’ve woken up with a hard hangover many times in the 5 years that I’ve lived here, so I’ve accidentally built up a strong roster of guilty pleasures for those rough times where my body and brain aren’t functioning.

$5 Fresh Juice at “Mr. Fruit” Grocery Stores

Sometimes all you need when your mind and body are hurting is a fresh juice. “Mr Fruit” grocery stores are scattered all across the city. They’re referred to as “Mr Fruit” because the locations are all called “Mr. ___” with varying fruits. The closest one to my apt. is Mr. Lemon. They sell delicious juices for 5$ and you get to pick any produce you want behind the counter.

Scallion Pancake Egg Sandwich at Win Son Bakery

If you want to stuff your face with greasy goodness, do yourself a favor and order the scallion pancake egg sandwich at Win Son Bakery in Bushwick. It’s all you would ever want in an egg sandwich and more.

Fried Chicken Burger at Syndicated

Watching movies is often the most productive thing you can do when you’re hungover. Syndicated in Bushwick is a great theater because you can lounge out and eat but also watch films on the big screen. It opens a bit later in the day, (5pm) but if you’re able to wait it out and treat yourself with an afternoon indulgence, their fried chicken burger is worth a try.

Phoenix Bun at Delight Wong

Delight Wong is a delicious, cheap, Chinese take-out spot on the border of the Lower East Side and Chinatown. They have rice rolls, dumplings, and anything else you would want in a dim sum breakfast. But the best part that people often forget about is the dessert. The Phoenix buns are hot creamy bites of goodness that just melt in your mouth.
